Affordable Home Care Services for Older Adults

Serving Barkhamsted, Colebrook, New Hartford, Norfolk, Winsted-Winchester Connecticut Since 2006

Helping Hands Chore Service, Inc. was established in 2006 as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, doing business as “Helping Hands.” The Winsted Health Center, our founding organization, provides health and wellness services to community residents. The campus is home to Hungerford Emergency and Medical Care, the Community Health and Wellness Center and the Susan B. Perry Senior Housing complex.

Funding

Helping Hands is partially funded by a grant from the Western Connecticut Area Agency on Aging, made possible through the Older Americans Act and State funding. We also depend on client donations, town assistance and financial support from the community. Helping Hands actively pursues grant opportunities, fundraising initiatives and yearly appeals to bring in much-needed revenue. In 2014, we received a grant from The Draper Foundation Fund, a fund of The Community Foundation of Northwest Connecticut covering program expansion efforts and client transportation to medical appointments. We also received funding from The Community Foundation of Northwest Connecticut to purchase groceries for at-risk clients during the holidays. In 2015, Helping Hands was awarded a grant from The Jewish Federation of Western, CT for transportation services to doctor appointments and outpatient facilities, and mileage reimbursement for travel.

Helping Hands is a subcontractor with the Connecticut Community Care, Inc. (CCCI) and Western Connecticut Area Agency on Aging-Respite, and an active member of the Connecticut Homemaker & Companion Association.
